"A Good Deed"
by Larry Brooks

I was on the road with the Irvin Cowboy Band out of Delaware.
We were playing an outdoor gig at the PA County Fair.  We performed on  the back of a "hay wagon" as
warm up band for the great Earnest Tubb.

I remember that I was running very late, and got to the venue just in time to get the amp up on the stage
and maybe tune up, if I were lucky.

As I approached the steps to the stage, I noticed an old man in bibbed overalls. He caught me as a walked by
and said, " Hey son, how's about helping an old man up those stairs ? "
Well, I thought ..."great, not enough that I'm late, but I gotta do
this too ! "

So I reluctantly leaned over and he grabbed my shoulder.
We headed up the stairs, and it seemed that he could not have made
this go any slower.  Like it took 5 minutes just to get up those stairs.

When we finally reached the top, imagine my surprise when he walked
over to my singer and shook his hand saying... "Hi, I'm Earnest Tubb..."
